According to CNET, Apple sold over 100,000 copies of OS X 10.2 over the weekend. This is a really good showing; there were crowds outside Apple stores around the country. I know some of the folks at my local Apple store (Tysons Corner), which gets a mention in the article.
According to the article, “Apple is hoping that Unix-based Mac OS X will appeal to existing Unix users and to those that have been experimenting with Linux.”—I’m a part of this demographic, and as far as I can tell, OS X is in a completely different league from any of the Linux OSs. Although KDE 3 is slick, it doesn’t come anywhere near OS X. Just the fact that you can fire up Microsoft Office on this thing makes it untouchable by any other OS in the *nix world.
