Shuttle disaster
Dave Winer is compiling reports of this morning’s shuttle disaster. Sad, sobering. When you are reentering the atmosphere of the planet at 200,000 feet, on a 22-year-old vehicle built of components manufactured by the lowest bidder, traveling at 3.5 miles per second, a lot of things can go wrong.
Yet the suspicion of terrorism lingers. According to the New York Times: “Only because the crash began some 40 miles above the earth could the instinct to think of terrorism be repressed.” Goes to show how fearful and conditioned we’ve all become after September 11.
