I just bought my first album off Apple’s news online music store (Bill Laswell’s Imaginary Cuba.) I am very impressed! Everything works as promised. I have a relatively fast connection at home, and the download happened extremely fast—almost as fast as ripping the music from a CD! And this in a day when I’m sure they’re getting hammered by the wave of early adopters like myself.
I have been waiting for this. I never liked the concept of downloading music off Napster/Kazaa/Limewire/etc. The quality/download speed/selection was always irregular (at best), and, well, it was illegal, right? The only thing that could keep Apple’s service from sparking a revolution in the music industry is if they don’t provide Windows users with a means to participate soon. As for me, my CD-buying days are over. (Well, not quite yet. The selection still has gaps… try searching for Philip Glass.)
I’ve signed up for Lou Rosenfeld and Steve Krug’s “Enterprise Information Architecture/Don’t Make Me Think!” double-header seminars. I am really looking forward to soaking up some knowledge from these folks and hanging out with like-minded people for a couple of days.
Jan Egil Hagen has published a list of interesting interfaces. Worth having a look, for inspiration if nothing else.
