BBC:“Apple Computer is in discussions to buy Universal Music, the world’s biggest record company, according to media reports.” (Via Dave Winer)
This is the most encouraging business news I’ve read in a while. It’s one of those bold moves that could change the world. If anyone can make the downloadable music thing work, Steve Jobs can do it. Everyone else that owns copyrighted media seems to be scared shitless of the internet; not this guy. (Not that I think the deal will actually happen. But I wish it would.)
The flipside: if it does happen, and it doesn’t work, it could sink Apple. And that, my friends, would suck.
