Web personalization doesn’t work

IA/: “Companies trying to get personal with their Web site visitors in hopes of increasing sales are wasting more money than they’re earning…”

I intuitively agree with these findings. From what I’ve seen, most personalization efforts are wishful thinking on the part of marketers and technology vendors. I’ve been a part of personalization efforts that were less successful than the vendors suggested.

Then again, there are successful implementations out there. Amazon’s personalization engine occassionaly produces worthwhile results. I’ve found a couple of interesting books and CDs through it.
