My country celebrates today 100 years of independence from Colombia. My friends and family are probably watching fireworks and having a grand ole time, while I’m stuck in Arlington, VA. (At least the weather’s been nice here!)
There’s a very good article in the Miami Herald today about Panama at 100, and the identity crisis that we currently face. A lot of the author’s points ring very true…
Side note: my great-great-grandfather was one of the people involved in achieving independence, and my name is sort of a family in-joke with his name.
