Vince Lombardi has published some thoughts on the AIfIA site on outsourcing of IA jobs. His conclusion seems to be that by focusing on the correct skill sets, IAs from established and emerging economies should be able to remain relevant in their own countries and abroad.
During the Future of IA retreat, there was a conversation thread on this issue, and one of the persistent themes was that while implementation is usually outsourced, design isn’t (yet). I believe design is the great differentiator, and this is likely to become even more evident in the near future. (The iPod is the posterchild for this trend.)
